In Haunted Summer, Lindsay, my main character, meets a young documentary filmmaker named Todd who is producing a film about people’s belief in the paranormal and the role those beliefs play in life. Their friendship really begins when she helps him film the interview of a man who had an alleged encounter with Bigfoot. The interview takes place at a restaurant called Sasquatch Steak and Ale which is in an Oregon tourist town. The inspiration for the restaurant came from Bigfoot’s Steakhouse in Seaside, Oregon. I’ve added a picture of it here. Yelp, the restaurant evaluation website, has a nice collection of pictures that will give you a sense of the atmosphere. Here’s a link: https://www.yelp.com/biz/bigfoots-steakhouse-seaside. The pictures make you want to go there, don’t they? For my Ark-La-Tex readers, It’s a long way to coastal Oregon, but if you just can’t wait, you can read about it in my book and, maybe, take a trip to Monster Mart in Fouke, Arkansas, and learn about our own local Bigfoot lore. I understand there’s a Bigfoot attraction at Branson, too. What is it about legendary beasts like Bigfoot that is so attractive to us? There’s just something oddly cozy about sitting around a fire with friends and speculating about what might lie beyond that circle of light. At least until you have to walk to the bathroom by yourself.
